Quote from RS1T :you are all complete idiots and are missing the point of this thread. The idea of this thread was just comparing cars in lfs to their real life counterparts. Shame on you all

Hahahaha. Then you are a complete idiot because this has been discussed DOZENS of times in the past. LFS was first released in 2002... for you to think that in the past 6 years and 2 months that nobody would have thought to start a thread discussing how the LFS cars compare to real life cars says a lot about you...

Quote from Zen321 :Go to Flyin' Miata to have some information on this project.

This is a Westfield like car, made from scratch, using a modded miata 1600cc for the NA6C version (maybe 1800 form the NA8C though, not sure). That's why it has the miata rims. So basically, what is similar to the miata is : the engine.
The rims are there because they are light and can be taken from the donor miata

http://www.flyinmiata.com/westfield/donor.php
http://www.flyinmiata.com/westfield/

î___ For more information

It's not a 'westfield like car', it is a kit produced by Westfield, using an MX-5 donor. Flyin' Miata are the official distributor of this Westfield kit in the US, not the designers of the kit. Of course, since they make turbo Miatas, Flyin' Miata have a turbo on their Westfield I have a friend with a Flyin' Miata kit on his miata and he makes 260rwhp...that's fast enough... that kind of power in a Westfield, man it would go like shit off a shovel!

As for the topic of this discussion, great to see this being discussed again, I'm sure it's been at least a month since the last thread

Yeah, I've had some rough races in the lower CTRA servers, but in some of the higher ones I've had some of the cleanest and closest races I've ever had in LFS.

Quote from BlueFlame :You get flamed for not searching, and you get flamed for necrothreads.

Exactly... start a new thread and hear "USE SEARCH!!", or post in an existing thread and hear "THIS THREAD IS A YEAR OLD! NICE GOING ON BUMPING AN OLD THREAD!"

Yeah it's stupid. I'm happy when you see people bump old threads instead of starting new ones! So good going NightShift. Never be sorry to bump an old one!

Quote from Rdcranno :Alonso / Hamilton ?

Haha yeah, cos we know how well they got on together last time

I'd go Kubica and Hamilton. I think Kubica has done really well to be so close to the top at the end of the season given he's not had the outright pace of the Mclaren and Ferrari. While Massa/Ferrari and Hamilton/McLaren have been making mistakes and getting penalties etc all over the place, Kubica has been flying under the radar and has ended up really close to the top thanks to consistent finishes and few mistakes.

I am fine with a grid of 14 for the Skippy races. The only thing that's frustrating is that as soon as it hits 15 you're split and only have 7 or 8...

It's actually 14 But it's 12 for the rookie and advanced Solstice.

Well I just loaded up my wingman profiler for the DFP, and then ran iRacing, and WOW what a difference. I thought I didn't need it running given that I didn't need to change any settings or anything for iRacing. But with it running for some reason the FF is much smoother and feels more precise. Also I found out some of the screws were loose in my pedals, so I tightened them all up and now they feel more accurate, as where they hinge is held in place better. So overall I'm much happier and enjoying iRacing more than ever

Quote from The Moose :The point system is precisely the other reason i dont like it, for exactly the reason you stated. Have a great result and a clean race early in the week and theres really no motivation to race again that week. The only way is down :P

Yeah this is very frustrating... do you just do one race per week and do well in the standings, or do you just race as often as you feel like it? Currently I am just racing regularly, because I'd feel pretty stupid paying monthly for something I'm only going to use once or twice a week...

I'd rather that the current races every hour or two were not for points, just only affecting your iRating and SR, and then there was also a league setup of some sort. So your regular races still 'count' in that your iRating and SR are affected, but your result will not earn you (or lose you!) championship points.

I think we should all do the Skippy, have a little LFS driver battle Certainly if anyone wants to do anything else as well then go for it, but if we get as many of us as possible doing the Skippy races, that could be fun

Well finding it difficult to get a race at the moment, which is frustrating... I did a legends at Infineon race earlier which was a lot of fun. Went to do another one and nobody else signed up. Just went to do a Formula Mazda race, and nobody else signed up... The only road course races that seem to be populated for the most part are the solstice and skip barber. And even when you do get a race in another series, usually there aren't many people and given a varied group of drivers usually shows up, there won't be many people at the same kind of pace as you. If you had 100 people show up for a race, then if it's split up by iRating, you will have a nice bunch of people probably around the same pace as you... but when it's only 10, you run with the people who are amazingly quick, and also those who have never turned a lap at the track you're running.

I have been thinking about this as well... will definitely run the Skippy series... also thinking of the Radical rather than the Mazda because I enjoy the Radical more and also think the races will be longer which should be fun. Only thing is I'm not sure about spending the money on all the tracks I'd need for the Radical... so maybe I'll focus on the Skippy for now and just run the Radical on the weeks I have the tracks for...

Good blog Have you read the other two by the same guy?

I got some practice in with the Advanced Legends at Infineon Cup today to see whether I'd be up for doing the Wednesday night race with it... I got my laptimes down a bit but really I am not comfortable enough with the car yet to compete in a race with it!

Also did a race in the Formula Mazda, which was kinda fun. Was a little longer, about 50 minutes, and on one of the long VIR tracks with a 2:30 laptime and a whole bunch of turns! I am not very quick in it, but it's fun. Although I am not hugely fond of slicks and downforce cars... I prefer cars with no downforce and lots of power but not much grip, like the LX6

Thanks My best was 1:25.424 in a race earlier today, so I guess mid not low 25s really, but I'm happy! Yeah I found it took a long time to get close to the right lines there. I just got my rating in D license above 4, so now I can race the Formula Mazda series... You mention the craftsman truck on roadcourses, have you heard rumours that will be a series?

As for oval, I've not spent any time with it... just road circuits! Currently SR of 4.45 and iRating of 2184.

I only paid for a month initially, and when that finished whenever it was, July or August or something, I didn't renew. I just got a 3 month subscription at the weekend though, and have been playing pretty regularly again so far! When I came back I had been bumped up to a D licence, and given I'm above an SR of 3.0 I should move up to a C licence for the next series. I think I will focus on the Skippy though as I enjoy it and think it will be a good car for my first full 12 week series.

The only thing I find frustrating is that I want to do a bunch of races in the Skippy, but really as far as the 12 week series goes you can lose out if you do a lot of races, as it averages your points. So a couple of bad races can harm your standings. Really it would be best to just get a lot of practice in before the start of the week, qualify well, and then do one race in the first day while a lot of people are still getting up to speed. If it goes well you should get a large number of points, and not need to race again that week. Unfortunately I want to race a whole lot....

Getting back into it after a couple of months off, I'm really enjoying the Skippy again. It's been a lot of fun at Infineon Cup, and I've got down into the low 1:25s there which I'm really happy with. As for the Solstice, I'm really not finding it very entertaining any more. It started to get fun for me when I had really got into the groove with the car, but now I just miss the responsiveness of the Skippy too much to really enjoy it.

I prefer Wispa to Aero, although the Mint Aero is nice. Wispa Gold is good too though! Overall definitely Wispa. Shows how long I've been out of the UK though, I didn't know Wispa was back, heck I didn't even know it had gone!

Quote from wheel4hummer :You could have ignored my comment. Or, you could have used concrete arguments using actual laptimes or something of the sort to show that a Cobra is a fairly good handling vehicle. The personal attacks, repeatedly calling me jealous, and such brought you right down to my level.

Have to agree with that!

Yeah a lot of it is how you save and where you choose to spend your money too... some people might say 'wow you must have a lot of money to have that car' but at the same time they will spend $100 per weekend going out drinking.... Someone who is more careful with their money could easily put away a chunk each month and end up with enough to get a nice car after a couple of years.

Another thing I notice is that if someone has an SUV or truck that cost say $50k nobody will really think 'woah they must be loaded!' but if someone has say a couple of year old 911 or nsx or something that they picked up for $50k, people will have a different attitude and think they're rich and showing off their money. When all it is is that they have different priorities from the person with the SUV, and spend their money differently.

Anyway my car history is pretty simple!

Bought a '90 Miata in 2001, and still have it now! Bought it with 90,000km on the clock, now it has 240,000km. Been my daily driver for 7 years, and my autocross car for the last three. I've abused the heck out of it and it's not given me any trouble at all!

Also bought a Kawasaki 650R motorcycle last year, and have put 19,000km on that since I got it. Starting to do motorcycle track days now, just did one this year but I'm looking forward to doing a few of them next year.

Quote from Electric Eye :Lol... maybe mistaking converting liters to gallons or something like that.

No I think he's right with his calculations... When driving conservatively trying to save fuel, you can get very good fuel economy in LFS. I found the same thing when I did a test of my own a while back. One area that can be improved, but really, not a high priority!
